Development Engineer for Composites based in Derby up to £35K Salary Modern Workshop Environment Statutory Holidays & Pension Scheme
Our client is a highly innovative advanced composite manufacturing company, based in Derby. Leading the revolution in composite manufacturing they are using highly automated processes to increase production volumes, decrease cost and produce optimised products.
They currently have an exciting opportunity for a Design and Development Engineer looking to advance their career in a high growth company, who is highly motivated to become part of a technology leading organisation and help shape future production capabilities.
You will need to be able to give evidence of your knowledge of composite design and manufacturing techniques and a have proven track record of creative problem solving and innovation.
While experience of advanced manufacturing techniques such as braiding, filament winding or AFP/TFP would be highly advantageous, it is not essential. A practical understanding of composite materials is required alongside experience of designing both composite components and tooling components in CAD.
Experience of FEA analysis would also be useful, but not essential.
Proven project and time management skills will be required along with your well-developed communication and collaboration skills to assist working independently and as part of a team.
Due to the nature of a small business, you will not always have guidance to your workload, so will be expected to be able to manage on-going development work and problem solving with strategic thinking about continuous improvement and future innovations.
You will be required to take customer and engineering specifications, understand structural requirements and be capable of using hand calculations to develop a suitable composite solution, while also considering cost and environmental requirements.
You will be able to work alongside operators and production engineers to develop, manufacture and validate your solution.
Design and develop customer specified parts to meet requirements
Own and develop manufacturing techniques and processes prior to handover to production engineers/operators
Develop innovative concepts to further the company’s technical and manufacturing capabilities
Design prototype and production tooling
Meet with customers to discuss requirements and opportunities
Present to various stakeholders to feedback and update on development activities
Work alongside senior engineer to undertake business development activities including quoting for development programmes
Help to develop and grow database of material properties for both internal and external use
An MEng in Mechanical Engineering or similar or equivalent qualifications/experience
Experience of developing advanced composite products and processes
Proven creative problem-solving skills and a history of innovation
Experience with Solid Edge or similar
Good communication and interpersonal skills
Self-motivation and proactive self-starting attitude
An interest in continued professional development
