Loans Manager (SME Credit Broker) - Salary up to £30K plus Generous Bonus, Pension, Healthcare & a Range of Additional Benefits (Home Based)

Our client is a fast-growing FCA-regulated credit broker helping SMEs to start and grow their businesses.

Due to their ongoing expansion, they are looking for an experienced Start Up Loans scheme approver or underwriter/commercial lender from a business banking or alternative finance background to join as a Loans Manager. The key objectives of the Loans Manager role are to deliver high quality initial loan decisions and internally sanction other team member’s decisions for approval or decline.

This will be over several key products including Start Up Loans and small business loans.

The ideal candidate must be self-driven, experienced in working remotely and autonomously to high standards as a lender. The candidate must work to obtain, and successfully maintain, a Delegated Lending Authority as part of this role.

A successful Loans Manager will be responsible for managing their own caseload, working closely with colleagues and senior management, with performance primarily assessed against volume and capital targets and strict adherence to compliance.


Ensuring eligible applications meet all KYC and other identity verification checks, and documentary standards required
Conducting robust assessments and underwriting loan applications for approval or decline according to product policy, standards and regulatory requirements
Keeping secure records of any checks carried out and decisions made, in order to provide a clear decision-making audit trail
As a second approver, conducting a full audit review of the first approvers rationale for a lending decision to ensure they are within policy, assessment criteria, company standards, and FCA requirements. Also giving feedback to 1st approvers to agree a final outcome for all applications where required
Ensuring high quality lending decisions are made at all times, whilst maintaining personal relevant lending authorities or approvals
Identifying performance issues and assisting in establishing and supporting improvements or other solutions
Ensuring the department meets complaints and default targets and help identify solutions where issues occur
Champion the fair and positive treatment of customers in accordance with the scheme’s Treating Customers Fairly
Developing and maintaining a strong knowledge of products, resources, policies and processes


It is Essential that Applicants have Either:

Worked as a first or second approver in the Start Up Loans scheme OR
Worked in an underwriting or commercial lending role in business banking or alternative finance.

Ideally you would have held a minimum unsecured Delegated Lending Authority of £100,000.

Successful applicants will:

Have experience of working in a targeted and fast paced environment
Understand the current regulatory requirements: anti-money laundering, KYC, FCA guidelines on responsible lending etc
Have experience of reviewing and assessing information such as financial business documents
Have excellent interpersonal and communication skills
Have excellent IT, numeracy and English literacy skills
